Volunteering

If you would like to offer your time as a regular volunteer, please email us at animals_inneed@hotmail.co.uk. Let us know what you’d like to do, and what sort of prior experience you have with animals. Note that for health and safety reasons, we cannot accept any volunteers under the age of 18. 

Most of the on-site tasks we need help with will focus on cleaning/tidying or hard physical work, so do bear this in mind. If you’d like to be a dog walker, it’s a good idea to invest in wellies and a warm coat! Senior staff will provide guidance, but cannot give constant supervision to volunteers. If you have additional needs, and would require a support worker, then your support worker must accompany you through the volunteer induction process.

If you’d like to bring a team down as part of a corporate charity day, we can accommodate this too.

As well as the rescue site, we also need people to help with fundraising – for example, doing odd jobs at our Fun Dog Shows, taking a shift at our charity shop in Formby, or shaking a donation bucket at Pets at Home during our events there. If you enjoy chatting to like-minded animal lovers, this might be the role for you. Fundraisers are vital to keep us afloat! 

Besides this, we are always looking for good foster homes able to care for cats and kittens (we don’t normally use foster home for our dogs, due to the special training regimes some of them need). Ideally, we look for foster homes who’ve had previous experience of cat ownership, a quiet household without young children, and a spare room where foster cats can be kept secure and comfortable. Nursing mums/small kittens need somebody with a significant amount of time to spare looking after them. We provide all food, cat litter, bedding, etc. and we ask that you have your own transport to collect items from the rescue, or drive animals to our chosen vets if needed.
