How to Adopt

So you have decided you like to adopt a rescued pet, so what happens. We hope this guide will explain our procedure for adopting from us.

  1. Make sure you have thought it through thoroughly. Owning a pet is a great responsibility and does incur costs.
  2. Decide what kind of pet you would like to adopt. If thinking about adopting a dog then read our page about choosing the right dog. Advice is available so please us our expertise as it is important to make sure that pet and owner are compatible to avoid unnecessary stress on both owner and pet
  3. Have a look at our various pages for pets looking for new homes. We also have a book at the centre which gives information about each animal we have available.
  4. Once you have chosen a pet that you like, you can either complete our Adoption Questionnaire online and we will arrange for you to come and meet them or come and visit us at the centre where you can complete the adoption form here. Our opening times to visit pets are 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm daily.
  5. When you visit us, we do not allow visitors to walk around the kennel block as this can be very stressful for the animals, but we do have rooms where you can meet them as well as a paddock. When you meet your chosen pet, please be aware that quite often they may have been with us for sometime, which can be stressful for some of them so you may not fully see the personality of the animal.
  6. If everything works out well and you decide you want to offer them a forever home, we will then arrange a day and time to bring your pet to you. This is usually within 3 days but can depend on where you are and how busy we are.
  7. We will then request a adoption fee. Almost all our dogs are £175, all our cats are £110 and kittens are £125. This includes their neutering, vaccinations, flea & worm treatment, microchipping, identity disc (dogs only), vet health check and one months free pet insurance.
  8. When we bring your new pet to you we will do a a home check. Please do not let this worry you, we just want to check that the living space is suitable for your chosen pet. We will also be checking that your back garden is secure, that there are no children under 5 and if you live in rented accommodation we will need to see your landlord’s permission for you to own a pet.
